ZaCSA’s Heart of the Community Award:

Jeanne Greene

It is with pleasure that I nominate Jeanne Green for Heart of the Community.  Jeanne has been a member of ZaCSA since her arrival to Japan this past fall.  She has volunteered to be a part of the Christmas Parade of Homes where she decorated and opened her home to the local Camp Zama community and the friendship groups we maintain with local Japanese spouses.  Most recently she assisted with ZaCSA’s Silent Auction.   Jeanne took on the responsibility of working the bank all night on an event which made over $19,000.00.  Her assistance helped ensure the money was properly accounted for on the night of the event for the silent and live auctions.

Additionally, Jeanne spends a good bit of her time volunteering to coordinate the  Zama American High School’s Color Guard.  Jeanne took on this endeavor just days after arriving to Camp Zama.  She saw the ad, while in-processing with her family, requesting a leader and stepped right in to ensure the school’s band had an active Color Guard.  Since taking on her role, she has practiced many hours and introduced all new routines with the girls, secured new uniforms and once band season was over immediately moved the girls right into Winter Guard where they continue to perform at school events.

As a part of the Spouses’ Club, Jeanne also coordinates the Bunco group which meets monthly.  While there are many members of the group who share in hosting, she has often filled in the gaps and hosted this monthly gathering in her home on numerous occasions.  Jeanne is always there to lend a helping hand and give of her time when needed.  She is often quietly in the background working to ensure the needs of the organizations and community are met as needed.   Jeanne is a true Heart of the Camp Zama Community and we are lucky to have her.
